Deviation Actions
Hello, everyone! Sketched, here.
These deviations were our featured folder entries for the last section of 2012. We'll be updating the featured folder within the next week or so if all goes well and I will do my best to kick my butt into gear and get these features back onto schedule. Please give these deviants' galleries a look and leave a comment and/or critique if you have the chance. The main reason behind these features is to showcase entries that need more feedback and that deserve more limelight.
Our little group is no longer quite so little any more and continues to grow at a decent rate. Thank you all for continuing to be here and for sharing each of your diverse takes on art with us! We look forward to seeing what you submit next!
On to the feature! (And as a note, to see thumbnails, this feature will be available in my journal as well. )
fav.me/d52cljf Drift by A lovely use of acrylic, watercolor and pen on paper, "Drift" balances cool colors with splashes of red quite nicely. The dripping and splashing of water across the page is done subtly at times and in a manner that is controlled, working well to the artist's advantage.
fav.me/d331ukddaisy chain by Love the soft focus of the background, the warm green tones and how bright the daisy is in comparison. Just a cheerful image, color-wise, and the title brings to mind childhood.
fav.me/d4occze Winter Water by I like that this image is so focused on such simple shapes as these little chain links, and the frozen motion of the dripping/beaded water hanging from each. The concept of winter and the cold comes across very well.
fav.me/d53ca0w loki by The artist picked a challenging character to draw, to be sure. Definitely some promise and recognizable as who the subject is, you can see the hard work put into the drawing.
fav.me/d5eiyk3 Speed the Collapse by This woman looks ready to take the world on! Digging the red-orange of her hair against the paler oranges of the sky- and how the artist managed to get that to work. The green stare is definitely the best part.
fav.me/d5fphq6Selfie by A really nice digital self portrait. I like how the artist rendered the hair, eyebrows, and glasses especially.
fav.me/d5eajq3 Alex Vondran by A rather neat looking OC piece. I particularly like the more rough shading style used on the fabric of the clothing.
fav.me/d584ad6 M.A.G.I.C by An interesting composition, focusing on the bug sitting on the vibrant yellow flower. The colors look rather intriguing in this.
fav.me/d584a09 Fly By by A well-captured shot of dragonflies. One in particular is caught in midflight, appearing as if frozen in midair. Nicely done.
fav.me/d3covixspring is in the air by First touch of spring seen in the budding of flowers along branches. The soft pinks and soft focus of the image makes this a rather calm, soothing image.
fav.me/d5fdrsaOut by A linocut dealing with pushing away negative forces in life.
fav.me/d5fmc1psea of glass by I thought this was just a fascinating close-up of glass, allowing for even a view of the texture of scratch marks upon the surface. Dig the colors.
fav.me/d5dgjkwDistance by The artist was influenced by ink wash paintings and you can definitely see the influence in both subject matter and the dark silhouettes of trees.

Update plus call for Contributors for the group
Hello everyone,
It has been a while. I had strayed away from deviantART for awhile due to real life issues and the like, but I am once again going to be active on my account. However, with the sheer size of this group, we are in need of more admin/contributors to make this group work and help it flourish again. We want to get back to our roots of critique and active participation and we need your help!
If you'd like to chip in and are interested in taking on such a role, or have questions about what all this would entail, please feel free to message me or send the group a note/ leave a comment on this blog entry.
Hope everyone is well and
Apologies for any issues and future Founder Change
Hello everyone,
This is just an update. My internet has been falling off the map continuously for the past few months, with even month long stretches or more of no internet access on my laptop. With this being an issue I face on occasion, at this point in time, I no longer feel that I am the right person to be the founder for the group. I will be looking into passing over the role to someone else. I apologize for any inconvenience my being away from dA the past few months has been towards the submission process, and really appreciate all the help that my fellow admin chipped in to keep the group running.
I will keep you posted as to when a
Update on Contributors and Recruiting!
You may have noticed a bit of inactivity lately, and submissions might be taking longer to get accepted, or expiring. The admins apologize for this, and we'd like to fix it. We've done a few things to help fix the problem:
Submissions to every folder now take a month to expire. The way it was previously set up, some submissions expired faster than others. We have fixed that and now every submission will have a month. Hopefully they won't be waiting that long at all, but this makes it less likely that your submissions will expire!
Contributors can now vote on submissions! We only had three admins voting on submissions, but now we'll have vot
Some Ideas about critique.
Why I wrote this.On DeviantArt good critique is rare ...sadly.
One could say that most commenter's are too lazy to write more then a few words and even those are just basic phrases that repeat every third or fourth reply. But I reckon it's often not laziness that keeps us from commenting in a meaningful manner: Many people are not sure what to write. Some are overly careful, others don't find the words, don't know what to focus on.
So this is the a summery of some basic rules, experiences and appetizers I consider as really useful. I hope this selection will help you to improve your commenting quality, but more importantly, that makes your
